Five Traits that Make Employers Sit Up and Take Notice

Bosses are busy people. They’re under consistent pressure to meet deadlines, achieve goals, push production and innovate at the same time. With all that on the brain, it’s easy for many employees to get lost in the shuffle. You may not be wishing for center stage, but it’s good to have your boss notice you for the right reasons. After all, that’s how you get more of a chance to grow and get a little closer to becoming more of a boss yourself.

Attitude is everything.

People love to complain. Don’t be one of them. A good attitude is a simple thing, but it’s amazing how much of a difference it makes in a work environment. You may not feel like a good attitude will set you apart from the rest, but even something that simple will set you apart. Your boss might not comment on it, but over time it will definitely make an impact.

Be a loyal team player.

Bosses are under a lot of pressure, and people tend to make them the bad guy most of the time. Showing your loyalty to and support for them is one way to make yourself stand out. Proving that you have your boss’s best interest in mind will help them think of you as an ally.

Solve problems, don’t create them.

Bosses often feel like the company’s unofficial complaint department. Don’t contribute to this feeling by constantly voicing problems. Instead, think of a workable solution to problems, preferably with plans on how you can help implement them. Your solutions ideally shouldn’t involve adding extra work to your bosses plate. Demonstrate that you’re a problem solver with the mindset to follow through on what you propose.

Dependability is golden.

Being a dependable worker is important because it will help you earn trust and then keep it. If you say you’ll do something by a certain time, always finish it by that deadline. If you can get it done sooner, that’s even better. Showing up for work on time and never being late to meetings is also important. Dependability is the key to trust.

In the everyday grind at the office, sometimes it may feel like you’re never noticed. However, if you always do your best and stay steady over time, your boss will notice you for the right reasons.
